2023 Year in Review

I’m at the age where years often pass by too quickly and often blur together. To cement 2023 as a memorable year I have to note the events and accomplishments that made this year special. This post is one of my efforts to do so.

If you’ve seen me in person this year, you already noticed the first one. I’ve lost about 35 lbs. The number itself may not seem like a lot but getting here had me lose two inches in my waist and making most of the clothes I owned far too big to wear. I did it with intermittent fasting, meal planning, and working out with a trainer, reaching my goal in nine months. This new me is sustainable with little effort and was one of my goals for this year. I’ve since emptied my closet of more than half of its contents, donating it all to Goodwill.

I got my first paid Life/Business Coaching client. He gets great value from our sessions and is continuing them for the foreseeable future. I have a long way to go to make this a sustainable business but my work has been worthwhile. I have coached many people for free, working to perfect my craft. I feel optimistic about the future.

I started my Personal Knowledge Management journey this year, collecting, classifying, qualifying, and evolving my thinking, productivity, and efficiency. I’ve tried, bounced off, and returned to multiple apps, finding that no one app will do the job I want done and certainly not the way I want it done but I can combine a few apps to achieve my evolving vision. My Single Source of Truth is ever-growing and evolving and my results will increase in quantity and magnitude.

I found a new tribe of men to hang out with this year. This has been an ongoing challenge. The connection is not about vices but about fellowship; talking and doing things together. I’ve needed something like this for some time. This also contributes to my goal to have more of a life outside of my home.

Some of my accomplishments are noteworthy but not very memorable. I read 37 books this year. My goal was 36. I’ve learned a few new money tricks that I’ve implemented and they have paid dividends. My overall relative wealth has increased. I finally quit Facebook and all the dead weight that came with it. I’m now cooking much more, cutting out most of my eating out, and the meals are tastier and better for my health.

My goals for the coming year are larger and farther reaching than ever though I have a lot of little ones that I’m excited about. Truth be told I don’t make them annually but on an ongoing basis. The list grows and shrinks monthly and I really like completing them. Overall it’s been a good year and I am looking forward to making the next one memorable in newer and more inventive ways.
