Predestination

Here’s another movie you probably passed over, dismissed, or missed for whatever reason. Maybe you’d consider taking another look.

“For his final assignment, a top temporal agent must pursue the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time. The chase turns into a unique, surprising and mind-bending exploration of love, fate, identity and time travel taboos.”

Predestination is a sci-fi movie that I wanted to see based on the trailer but not enough to actually go to the theater for it. Turns out it was worth it, for me at least. This movie debuted in the U.S. in 2015 and earned a good rotten tomatoes score. It hits most of the boxes I look for. It’s a thriller, moved at a good pace, made me think, and had a smart twist that I didn’t see coming. The sci-fi aspect, while integral to the story, is icing on the cake. It stars Ethan Hawke who always seems to fit into those movies that fall just short of mainstream. The movie is based on a 1959 short story “All You Zombies” by Robert A. Heinlen.
