On The Road Again
It took me three days to drive from Las Vegas to Atlanta. I had hoped to make the trip in two, but I got off to a late start on the first day. Driving at night was out of the question without consistent streetlights though I tried it for a bit. There was also the factor of the time changing. Each day I lost an hour of sunlight as I crossed a time zone. I made it safe and sound. While I experienced multiple speed traps, I never got pulled over. I spent both nights on my journey in a Motel 6.
I packed tightly, squeezing everything I could into my vehicle, but many things did not make it and that was to be expected. Not everything I did pack, made it either. The biggest casualty is my big TV. The screen cracked in such a way that no picture is visible. Now I must start repurchasing needed items that didn’t fit when I was packing. It is good that many things are cheaper here.
At the time of this writing, I have been here for about a week. My preliminary thoughts are just that, no judgment yet. The city feels to me to have a shade over it, like overhead clouds. There are a lot of trees and while that is an obvious stark contrast to Las Vegas, the amount is still massive. They appear to grow like weeds everywhere they’re allowed. There is often no scenery from the freeway due to the tree line. Everywhere I’ve gone so far, the vibe is casual. The temperature is nice, and I am happy to have missed the summer here. Gas is cheaper here too by a dollar or more a gallon.
I have reached out to the family and the few connections I have here but my most important goal is to find work and establish myself here. I am grateful to my family for providing me with a soft landing and I don’t want to take advantage.
